A lubricant does not enter a lubricating system uncontrolled. Material pressure regulators such as the MDR-LW04 from ABNOX act as a gatekeeper, regulating and monitoring the lubricant conveyed by a barrel pump before it is delivered to consumers such as impulse valves. A material pressure regulator reduces the pressure to the desired level and minimises pulsation that occurs when transporting materials using a piston pump.
Controlling the pressure is essential since it can be crucial for the dosing of lubricating grease or lubricating oil. Samuel Mangold, Mechanical Engineer at ABNOX, explains: “Constant pressure improves the repeat accuracy of time-controlled dosing valves, for example, and the associated process reliability of a system.” This is particularly important in assembly lines with numerous steps: A slew of delays quickly develops when one lubricating process fails.
Various monitoring options
In addition to digital pressure gauges for on-site verification, material pressure regulators from ABNOX can be equipped with an electronic output pressure switch. This can be connected to a PLC and thereforeensures full integration into a system.
The number of monitoring modules varies depending on the application. To check the configured pressure settings, ABNOX recommends an input and an output pressure gauge in each case. Thus the residual pressure produced by the pump and the output pressure set on the material pressure regulator are monitored.
→ Good to know: The pressure drop between the feed pump and material pressure regulator depends on several factors: The conveying distance, line cross-section, pressure ratio of the pump and propertiesof the lubricating medium. Depending on the application, the conveying pressure may drop significantly after alonger line. Therefore, the pressure drop always has to be taken into account.
Customer-specific: MDR modular unit
Various mounting accessories and installation sets simplify the installation of the MDR-LW04 material pressure regulator. Depending on the situation on site – Is an existing line being used, or a new system being built? – they facilitate the installation of the lubricating system.
Customers who have their MDR modular units tailored to their specific needs by ABNOX expend the least effort. For example, a filter can also be installed to catch any contamination.
