Many of my relatives are sport shooters. My father learned about the hobby from his father and therefore wanted to pass it on to his children. After watching him for years, I was finally allowed to get behind the rifle myself as a junior shooter at the age of ten, initially under supervision. The first results were rather sobering, but the motivation to improve was enormous. At the latest when I achieved my first good shooting result, I was gripped by passion. Now I've been in the shooting club for 16 years and during this time I've been able to celebrate a number of successes.
Many people do not see sport shooting as a real sport. I think that's a big mistake, because it's not just about precision. In addition to body control, concentration and self-reflection, analyzing conditions such as light conditions or wind strength also plays a role. Every slightest movement when firing a shot can lead to a "drawing error" and thus cost valuable points. Self-reflection and analysis determine whether the rifle was distorted during shooting, whether the aim was correct through the sights, or whether wind arose at the moment of firing. In short, only by noticing every little detail can I correct the sight and get as close as possible to the maximum score.
For me, sport shooting is a good way to forget about everyday stress. When I am behind the rifle, it doesn't matter what happened during the day. My focus is then only on the target, 300 meters in front of me. After training or a competition, the exchange of ideas with fellow shooters is also part of the hobby. It's not unusual for me to come into contact with other club members and make new friends.
The disciplined learning of the mentioned skills makes the shooting sport unique. No wonder, shooting competitions at the Olympic Games have been part of the program since 1896!

Sport shooting has its origins in Central Europe and has been practiced in Switzerland since the 16th century. The oldest sports equipment can even be traced back to the Middle Ages. Matthias Frey, a budding design engineer, tells us here how he grew up with this hobby.
