The flight is also symbolic: Communication between the departments is just as swift as the drone buzzing from one section to the next. “Flat hierarchies and efficient communication set us apart,” says CEO Matthias Iseli. Company management is indeed involved in all processes rather than being disconnected from business operations. Instead of flying by the seat of their pants, management consistently maintains their focus in making strategic decisions. Markus Kälin, COO, confirms this: “We don’t just look to the year-end results, we are working for the next generation.” New talent is supported in all departments and preference is given to local suppliers.
Lean management is omnipresent at ABNOX. “From Assembly, Production and Logistics to Purchasing, we practice lean principles throughout the company,” Markus Kälin continues. This ensures that the SME is always adaptable, especially in crisis situations caused by market shifts or changing customer needs – similar to an FPV (first person view) drone that immediately changes course when a collision risk is detected. Developing, testing and producing customer-specific solutions and small series quickly is the undisputed speciality of the company based in central Switzerland.
ABNOX is always investing in new machinery, hardware, software and process optimisation at all levels. Peter Barmettler, Head of Technology, sums it up like this: “We are always open to new things. That’s what sets us apart.” For example, quality management has been considerably improved in Cham over the last few years with a new, air-conditioned measuring room and the latest measuring equipment. “Customers bring 30-year-old ABNOX products to us for maintenance. That tells you a lot about our success in quality assurance,” says Roberto Bernich, Head of Quality Management.
